ABOUT HAW PAR VILLA:
Haw Par Villa – formerly known as the Tiger Balm Garden – is an 8.5-hectare Asian cultural park, the last of its kind in the world. Built in 1937, Singapore’s largest outdoor art gallery is the brainchild of Aw Boon Haw, the millionaire philanthropist and marketing extraordinaire who gifted the world Tiger Balm. The eclectic park is a treasure trove of Asian culture, history, philosophy and religion – quirky yet enlightening, at the same time.
Ascend, dear wanderers, on the signature red brick road, through the majestic entrance archway. Look out for Chinese classics such Journey to the West and the Eight Immortals. Tigers, leopards and dragons lurk in corners. Rolling hills and caves evoke contemplation and reflection. Elsewhere in the park, animals of all shapes and sizes beckon: goats, pandas, rabbits, gorillas, giant lobsters, even a crab-lady, the list goes on.

Tatinis Art Show
Following its successful transition into a global brand since its last fair in Sweden (2018), the Tatinis Art Show returns to its inceptive grounds in Singapore this year under the theme Hope; Peace; Love at the F1 Pit Building’s Paddock Club 6 from the 24th to the 26th of May, 2019.
In tandem with its mission to bring affordable art to every home, the upcoming art fair promises a constellation of over 500 local and international artworks from galleries and by individual artists, including several artists from Sweden and Finland.
Priced between SGD$100 and SGD$6000, the exhibition allows for equitable opportunities towards the purchase of artworks by art novices, seasoned collectors, and the general public to experience art at an approachable level.
Riding on the positive receptivity in its previous runs, the Tatinis Art Show has assimilated a staple of supporting activities that heighten the eclectic experiences for exhibitors and patrons alike.
The Fashion Meets Art segment slated for the first day (24th May) will feature a fashion show by Singapore Fashion Runway and their initiative of “Fashion for a Social Cause”.
The show focuses on social inclusion by encouraging special needs kids to be part of their runway presentation of wearable art, whereby paintings and other art forms are printed onto clothes and accessories as a fashion statement that redefines artistic disciplines.
The second day (25th May) brims with three complimentary activities catered for the kids. Through the Kids Art Party segment, children are able to partake in painting and theatre workshops conducted by vendors Little Artists Art Studio and local theatre company WeCanDoit.

Imperial Treasure
The temerity to put “Super Peking Duck” in the restaurant’s name stems from legitimate confidence in being able to present patrons with the highest quality Peking Duck in Singapore.
Imperial Treasure has earned a reputation for its impeccable Peking duck but their other signature dishes are worthy of accolades as well.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Unbeatable Peking duck: Peking duck is more than just a dish, it is a gastronomic experience that starts from the roasting of a whole duck to crisp, fatty perfection until it is served and sliced right at the patron’s table.
- Special set menu for large groups: A Chinese restaurant is an easy choice for celebrations because a set menu is almost always offered. Imperial Treasure has an assortment of set menus that celebrate its bestsellers: Yang Chow Four Treasures, Peking Duck, and homemade pastries.
- Vegetarian set menu: A vegetarian set menu that does not revolve around tofu is great news to the health-conscious. Imperial Treasure’s vegetarian set menu showcases cleverly crafted veggie-centric dishes such as stewed vermicelli with shredded carrot and stewed beancurd skin with mushroom.
MENU: Imperial Treasure may not have a voluminous menu as those found in typical Chinese restaurants but the brilliance of each dish more than makes up for the short stack of choices. Aside from its world-class Peking duck, the menu is a collection of exquisite appetizers, crustaceans, soup, vegetables, roasts, barbecue, meat, seafood, and dessert.
MUST-TRIES:
- Beijing Style Roasted Duck
- Baby Lobster Baked with Salted Egg Yolk
- Charcoal Grilled Quail
LOOK & FEEL: Imperial Treasure has an understated elegance with interiors showcasing an aesthetic of lines and borders amidst traditional circular tables. The simple decors allow food to take the spotlight in every Imperial Treasure culinary experience.
NOTE: Most of Imperial Treasure’s signature dishes, especially their roasts, require to be ordered in advance.
Crystal Jade Golden Palace
A Michelin star is possibly the highest recognition that a restaurant can earn, a symbol that something is being done exceptionally well. In the case of Crystal Jade Golden Palace, the perfect execution of Teochew recipes along with the easily loveable contemporary creations placed them in the ranks of highly esteemed restaurants in Singapore.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Teochew specialties: Crystal Jade is a popular chain of restaurants in Singapore but only the Golden Palace branch offers Teochew dishes, a cuisine that is rooted in the Chaoshan culture. A highly historical cuisine, the restaurant gives it a modern spin to fit in the upscale ambiance.
- Affordable dim sum baskets: A $6 dim sum basket from a Michelin-starred restaurant may sound too good to be true but it is just mouthwateringly true.
- Indulgent shark’s fin dishes: Crystal Jade Golden Palace has one of the longest lists of shark’s fin dishes in Singapore. Believed by the Chinese to possess medicinal and wellness properties, shark fin is presented in more creative ways than simply soup such as sautéed shark fin with scrambled egg and olive oil.
- Michelin star recognition: Having received the elusive Michelin star recognition for its authentic rendition of the Teochew cuisine, Crystal Jade Golden Palace joins the ranks of the best restaurants not only in the country but across the globe.
MENU: Crystal Jade has both a la carte and set menus that offer hot and cold appetizers, Teochew braised dishes, Cantonese barbecue, shark’s fin, bird’s nest, abalone, sea cucumber, fish maw, live seafood, soups, Teochew and Cantonese classics, meat, vegetable and bean curd, and traditional Chinese desserts.
MUST-TRIES:
- Roasted Baby Suckling Pig Rolled with Black Truffle Rice
- Chilled Yellow Cream Crab in Teochew Style
- Sugar-coated Yam
LOOK & FEEL: Crystal Jade Golden Palace merges Chinese traditions with modern design. The main dining area features big circular tables, thick carpeting with gorgeous prints, and high ceilings embellished with sophisticated chandeliers. The pop of berry accents amidst black fixtures give the place a movie-set feel, an air of intrigue.
NOTE: Big groups are highly recommended to make reservations for the private dining room.
