Y2K Dreamz

Y2K. Referring to the year 2000, the phrase Y2K was commonly used to refer to a widespread computer programming shortcut that was expected to cause extensive havoc at the turn of the new millennium, reflecting societal anxieties that came with this milestone.

This programme explores films from around and about the year 2000, and seeks to examine the anxieties, hopes and fears prevalent within Asian cinema during the turn of the new millennium.

Y2K DreamZ runs from 1 to 30 September 2023 at Oldham Theatre. The programme consists of four new restorations for the films All About Lily Chou-Chou, Fire, Spacked Out and Peppermint Candy.
