Income Eco Run 2020

Get ready for Income Eco Run 2020!

Singapore’s favourite eco run is back! Held at the F1 Pit Building on 26 April 2020, Income Eco Run (IER) 2020 is now open for registration.

Building on past efforts to encourage a zero waste lifestyle, as well as to commemorate Income’s 50th Anniversary, new initiatives to reduce, reuse and recycle will be introduced at IER2020. These include printing of bib numbers on running singlets for selected categories and distribution of reusable bags made of breathable mesh for runners to hold their post-race replenishment of bananas and recovery drinks at the finish line.

Race categories at IER 2020 include the 10km individual or mixed team and a 21.1km Half Marathon challenges. Other categories include the Zero Waste 5km distance for participants 13 years and above, and two distances for children – 800m for those aged four to eight years old, and 1.2km for those aged nine to twelve years.

Swee Guan Hokkien Mee is the original stall of Geylang Lor 29 Fried Hokkien Mee which was started in 1968. The name was changed to avoid confusion and to differentiate it from Geylang Lor 29 at East Coast which is run by the owner’s brother. Over the years, loyal patrons have been flocking to this hokkien mee stall for its original recipe which has remained unchanged after more than 50 years in the business.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Traditional cooking method: Swee Guan Hokkien Mee uses the traditional cooking method of frying all the ingredients above charcoal fire. This is evident in the “wok hei”, hint of smoky flavor as you bite into the noodles.
Thick yellow noodles: Swee Guan Hokkien Mee uses more of the thick yellow noodles than the finer bee hoon noodles. This gives the dish a sticky texture as the noodles absorb most of the gravy.

Old school kaya toast: Ah Seng (Hai Nam) Coffee is one of the few remaining coffee shops in Singapore that uses the traditional way of toasting bread on charcoal. This gives the toast enough crispiness and a hint of smoked flavor.
More than 50 years of history: Ah Seng (Hai Nam) Coffee was started by Ah Seng’s father at Lau Pa Sat in 1964. Ah Seng was his father’s little helper until he took over after ten years. The shop then relocated to Amoy Street Food Centre in 1997 and has been operating there ever since. Ah Seng still runs the stall with his wife and son.
Charcoal-toasted French Toast: This could be unusual for Westerners who are used to pan-toasted French Toast. Ah Seng (Hai Nam) Coffee’s French Toast is a simple recipe of bread dipped in egg, toasted over charcoal, and served with kaya and butter. Yum!

THE KAYA: Ah Seng (Hai Nam) Coffee’s serves homemade kaya that has an eggy, pandan fragrance. Loyal customers love it because it is not too sweet and not too greasy.

THE COFFEE: Ah Seng (Hai Nam) Coffee uses aromatic Robusta coffee beans that are ground in-house. Some might find the Hainanese coffee a little bit on the bitter side.
