Singapore is often considered one of the most expensive cities to live in, but if you know where to look, you will be surprised to find stores selling goods at a lesser price. Here are my top choices for buying cheap groceries in Singapore.

  1. Value Dollar

This is every budget conscious Singaporean’s best kept secret. Value Dollar sells “B” stocks at dirt cheap prices that can save you up to 50% from your grocery budget. This is my go to place when I need to stock up on canned goods, beverages, snack items, pantry staples, toiletries, and other household items. Just make sure to check expiration dates before purchasing.

  1. Warehouse Club

This is good for bulk purchases. If you are not a member, you can shop with someone who is. Membership fee is $50 for 2 years. Not bad in exchange for exclusive access to overseas products at 20% discount on average. Warehouse Club carries international brands like Kirkland Signature US, Carrefour France, Tesco UK, Cheesecake Factory US, and Frosch Germany. There are more than 4,000 products to choose from, including groceries, fresh and frozen food, electronics, household goods, and health and beauty items.

  1. Tiong Bahru Wet Market

This is my personal choice among the best wet markets in Singapore. There is a variety of imported fresh produce here including Australia and New Zealand beef at half of the usual supermarket price. The famous Tiong Bahru Food Centre is located right above the market so you can easily swing by if you feel hungry after shopping.

  1. Giant Online Store

Online grocery stores are very helpful in this time of the pandemic. I opt for Giant online store since they sell a wide variety of products, including fresh produce, dairy, frozen products, wines, kitchen wares, pet care, DIY materials, baby essentials, toys, and clothing. There is not much difference in prices from the actual Giant stores and it’s super convenient.
